Be a Man Yaar is a show hosted by Nikhil Taneja where famous men talk about their struggles, journeys and things they have not talked openly about. Amidst the release of the latest season of Koffee With Karan, the filmmaker Karan Johar made an appearance where he opened up on several aspects of his life ranging from his Mental health and sexuality to his childhood and struggles in the film industry. Moreover, he also reflected on his experience working with Shahrukh Khan.
Karan Johar opens up on his struggles
Karan Johar has been under the radar for his sexuality. Although he has not come out openly, he has given cryptic hints that reveal his preference for men over women. Moreover, he has opened up on his several struggles since childhood in his book, ‘An Unsuitable Boy’ which was released in 2016.

In this latest episode of the show, Be a Man Yaar, released on 24 October 2023, he spoke with Nikhil Taneja about his journey with femininity. He reveals that being in Bollywood was a battle for him and the first person who made him feel okay was the mega-star Shahrukh Khan. Moreover, he says that he always made him feel equal and accepted him the way he was.
Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan’s relationship
Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan have worked together in the 1995 movie, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, where Shahrukh Khan was the lead and Karan Johar was the assistant director with a small role. After this movie, the two shared a friendship that has lasted over the years. The actor has appeared in the majority of the filmmaker’s movies, starting from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Therefore, the two of them together have created several cult classics in Hindi cinema.
