Pakistani Actress Somy Ali Lauds Deepika Padukone for Promoting Mental Health Awareness, Deepika Reacts

Deepika Padukone has been the biggest advocate for mental health awareness in the country. Since the actress came out with her battle with depression in 2015, he has been promoting mental wellness through her social media and other platforms. Moreover, she was one of the first people to open up about her struggles and throw light on this topic which was not something that was taken seriously back then. Since then many have been talking about and educating people on mental health care and much more.

Somy Ali lauds Deepika Padukone for sharing her depression journey

In 2016, Deepika Padukone became the brand ambassador of the Indian Psychiatric Society to enhance awareness of mental health issues, including depression. Not only that, she has been an inspiration for many over the years to understand their struggles and seek appropriate help for the same. The Pakistani-American actress and writer, recently took to Instagram to share her her story while expressing gratitude for the actress for opening up on her struggles. In the post, she wrote,

“Today, I would like to bow my head down and simultaneously salute this beautiful young lady. She has talent, intellect and above all, courage. As someone who knows what depression feels like and has inherited it from my mother. THANK YOU! It’s never easy to be vulnerable and particularly a star of this caliber. You are a real hero! #deepikapadukone

“There were days when I just didn’t want to wake up, I would sleep because sleep for me was an escape,” said Deepika Padukone

An estimated 3.8% of the population experience depression, including 5% of adults (4% among men and 6% among women), and 5.7% of adults older than 60 years. Approximately 280 million people in the world have depression (1). Depression is about 50% more common among women than among men.”

Deepika Padukone took to her Instagram to share this post as a story on her official page. The post had a picture of her with the caption. Therefore, Deepika shared the post on her story and wrote, #mentalhealthmatters with a joint-hand emoji, as a sign of gratitude.

Mental illness and other issues are very common and can arise anytime. Therefore, it is important to know how to deal with the issues in a healthy way

  • Open up to someone close about your struggles
  • Take care of your physical health
  • Do not seek comfort in substances like alcohol or drugs
  • Seeking professional help
