Karva Chauth 2023: On the occasion of Karva Chauth, women in the north of India keep a fast for their husbands. Karva Chauth is celebrated to show a wife’s devotion to their husband. Therefore, they fast for a day for their husband’s good health and fortune. The women start their fast before sunrise. During the fast, they do not consume any form of food or water. The fast ends when the moonbeams and their husbands feed them their first morsel of food of the day. Although with a beautiful message, it can be difficult for some to sustain themselves through the day without food or water. Here are some Sargi food items to help you get through the day with high energy.

What is Sargi

Sargi is the meal women have before the fast begins. Therefore, this is usually eaten early in the morning around 3 or 4 am. The women in the house wake up early to prepare Sargi and eat it together. Here are a few foods to incorporate in your Sargi.

Fruits

Fresh Fruits are a great way of filling the body with energy and keeping it hydrated. Citrus fruits are especially recommended due to the high water content in them such as Oranges. Other than that, pomegranates are also a good option

Nuts

Nuts such as almonds, pistachios and walnuts have several nutrients that keep the blood pressure from dropping. Therefore, a day of fasting lowers the risk of issues related to blood pressure and heart while keeping the brain functioning well.

Coconuts

Coconuts have the property to keep the body hydrated. Moreover, it also has other nutrients that keep the blood pressure in check. Coconut water has a detoxifying effect and keeps the body energized.

Buttermilk

While fasting, many tend to get issues of gas accumulation in the stomach. To avoid this, a glass of buttermilk can be added to your Sargi to regulate the gastric processes in the stomach.

Wholesome Meal

A cooked meal of two rotis and a sabji is eaten during the Sargi to stay full for the coming day. Moreover, it can be modified by alternating for a stuffed paratha or something else of their choice.

These food items can help you make your fast experience a lot more pleasant. Apart from this, a sweet dish is always eaten for Sargi to start the auspicious day with something sweet.
