Thank You For Coming Review: Bhumi Pednekar’s Movie Tries Hard But Did Not Quite Satisfy

Thank You For Coming Movie Review: The latest Bhumi Pednekar starrer hit the theatres, leaving fans a little confused and dissatisfied. Contrary to the themes of the film, the audience could not achieve full euphoria after watching this sex comedy directed by, Karan Boolani. Released on 6th October, 2023, the movie stars Bhumi Pednekar along with the internet personalities, Dolly Singh, Kusha Kapila, Shehnaaz Gill and Shibani Bedi. This female-led cast is accompanied by Anil Kapoor, Karan Kundra and many more.

Plot of Thank You For Coming

The plot of the movie deals with the main character, Kanika Kapoor, played by Bhumi Pednekar, who lives in her world, like any other Bollywood movie lead. However, she suffers from the trauma of being bullied when she was young as she was not born out of a married couple. This instilled in her a trauma because of which she is willing to marry anyone just to get married, unlike her mother. For someone who yearns for male validation, she has never experienced an orgasm. In search of that, she finally finds one at her engagement party. But things take a twist when she forgets the person who did so and spends the rest of the movie trying to find him.

Positives of Thank You For Coming

Thank You For Coming takes hold of women’s sexuality, which is still seen as a taboo in the country. Moreover, the director, Karan Boolani, made sure to get his research done right to deal with this topic in a non-problematic way while breaking typical stereotypes around women who take charge of their pleasure. Additionally, Bhumi Pednekar gives justice to Kanika’s character while keeping the humour alive. Not only that, the newcomers also gave a good performance revealing their talent in various fields. Furthermore, the music numbers are a hit.

Negatives of Thank You For Coming

Although the film deals with the complex issues of female sex and pleasure, it fell short in the narrative because of the filmmaker’s need to make the film family-appropriate, having to sugar-coat various terms and jokes. Moreover, the side characters were barely a part of the entire narrative. For a movie that promotes female companionship, it barely any scenes of the side characters. Therefore, the side actors, with a lot of potential, were reduced to 3-4 scenes. Not only this, but a lack of storytelling left the viewers confused and the laughs were barely there.

Rating

Overall, the movie did not match up to the hype but was a fairly good attempt at exploring women’s experiences in a light-hearted fun watch. Rating- 2.5/5
