Oscars 2023: SS Rajamouli’s RRR gets nominated in only one category; Chhello Show advances in Best International Feature category

Oscars 2023: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the Oscar shortlists in ten categories on Thursday. Despite an extraordinary work, director SS Rajamouli’s RRR managed to progress in only one category, Music (Original Song), for the song “Naatu Naatu”. The film was considered for multiple awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Visual Effects, among others. While RRR did not appear on any other list except for Original Song, it still has a chance to be nominated in the other major categories, including Best Picture and Best Director. This would be a first for a Bollywood film.

Last Film Show advanced in the International Feature Film category

Meanwhile, the Gujarati film Last Film Show advanced in the International Feature Film category, and Shaunak Sen’s festival favorite All That Breathes advanced in the Documentary Feature Film race. It’s worth noting that Last Film Show’s Oscar entry caused quite a stir, as many expected the more popular and financially successful RRR to be picked as India’s official option for International Feature category contender. The Elephant Whisperers, a documentary short by Kartiki Gonsalves, was also selected for the Documentary Short Film shortlist.

All That Breathes can receive the Oscars 2023

All in all, Shaunak Sen’s renowned documentary film All That Breathes has a high possibility of not just receiving an Oscar nomination, but also winning one. Writing With Fire, a documentary directed by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, received an Oscar nomination last year.
