SS Rajamouli announces ‘Made In India’ biopic about the ‘Father of Indian Cinema;’ deets inside

After mesmerizing viewers with films like Baahbuali 1 & 2 and RRR, filmmaker SS Rajamouli is back with another epic. On Tuesday, the filmmaker released a preview for his new film, Made In India. The film, which tells the tale of ‘the origin and ascent’ of Indian cinema, is directed by Nitin Kakkar and co-produced by Rajamouli’s son SS Karthikeya and Varun Gupta.

“Indian cinema has witnessed many biopics,” reads the announcement teaser for Made in India, which is believed to be a biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke. This is Indian cinema’s biopic. SS Rajamouli proudly presents “Made in India.”

The RRR director wrote, “When I first heard the narration, it moved me emotionally like nothing else. Making a biopic is tough in itself, but conceiving one about the FATHER OF INDIAN CINEMA is even more challenging. Our boys are ready and up for it..:) With immense pride, Presenting MADE IN INDIA…”

Dadasaheb Phalke is known as the ‘Father of Indian Cinema’ to the uninitiated. In 1913, Phalke directed the first full-length Indian feature film, Raja Harishchandra. In his nearly two-decade career as a director, he made a reported 27 short films and over 90 feature films. The film’s cast is yet to be determined. Nitin Kakkar, who will direct the film, has already directed Filmistaan (2012), Mitron (2018), Notebook (2019), Jawaani Jaaneman (2020), and Ram Singh Charlie (2020). It is SS Karthikeya’s debut producing project, after serving as Line Producer on his father’s last smash, RRR.
