Following in Jawaharlal Nehru’s footsteps, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is just the second Indian leader to be sworn in for three consecutive terms, making his swearing-in ceremony historic. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, won 293 seats in the most recent Lok Sabha elections, securing a commanding majority in the 543-member lower house of the Indian parliament. A majority requires 272 members.

Celebrations and Preparations in Delhi

A flurry of excitement and celebration has been in the air in Delhi ahead of the evening event. There is a celebratory vibe around the city thanks to the posters of Prime Minister Modi. About 1,100 traffic police officers from the Delhi Police have been deployed to guarantee the event runs smoothly.
