Matthew Perry, the troubled star of the classic TV sitcom “Friends,” was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Saturday, according to US media. He was 54. According to law enforcement officials, first responders discovered Perry unresponsive in a hot tub at his home and were unable to revive him. “At 4:10 p.m., we responded…It is a death investigation for a male in his 50s,” a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department told AFP, without confirming the victim’s identity.

A fire department official said that the agency responded to a “water emergency,” which may refer to a “pool, spa, bathtub, or fountain,” but he could not corroborate allegations that Perry passed away.

Battled with addiction to painkillers

Perry battled addiction to drugs and alcohol for years throughout the height of his success, and he attended recovery clinics many times. Perry had health issues in 2018 as a result of his drug use, including a burst colon that necessitated multiple operations and the use of a colostomy bag for months. Perry detailed going through detox dozens of times and spending millions of dollars in repeated attempts to get sober in his memoir “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” which was published last year.
