Tovino Thomas reacts to ‘2018’ being selected as India’s official entry for Oscars 2024; calls it ‘pride’

Following its box office triumph, the Malayalam film ‘2018’ has reached yet another milestone. We are overjoyed that ‘2018,’ starring Tovino Thomas, has been chosen as India’s official submission for the Oscars in 2024. This film, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, is a moving depiction of the real-life Kerala floods and has become the second highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2023, after only ‘Romancham.’

In yet another glorious milestone for Indian cinema, the Malayalam film ‘2018’ has been selected as India’s official submission for the Oscars in 2024. The film, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, is based on the damage wrought by the 2018 Kerala floods. The video was instantly popular with the general public since it depicted the hardships that families, pregnant women, elderly people, and others faced during the disaster.

Tovino Thomas reacted to the information

He said, “Being picked as India’s official submission for the Academy Awards is a great honor for our film. It’s a source of pride not only for me as an actor, but for the whole crew that poured their hearts and souls into this production.”

“2018 exemplifies Kerala’s perseverance and indomitable spirit in the face of one of the most terrible natural catastrophes of our time. We want to remind everyone that, even in the midst of turmoil and destruction, there is always a glimmer of hope, and it is the human spirit that shines the brightest. This nomination is a great example of our collaborative work, and I am hoping that it will connect with a global audience,” he added.
