Double XL movie review: Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi starrer is not Relatable

Double XL movie review: Double XL is all about how destiny brings two same sized women Rajshree Trivedi (Huma Qureshi) and Saira Khanna (Sonakshi Sinha) together to rediscover their life against all odds. Rajshree dreams to be a sports commentator and Saira Khanna wishes to be a fashion designer. Both of them were pulled by social factors, which prefer to focus on their weight and not their dreams. If we talk about the plot of Double XL then it has the potential to touch upon stereotypical human behavior but the execution is peripheral.

What’s Interesting?

There are three aspects that work for Double XL. The thought is reality based, though noble thoughts translate into fruitful returns. At the idea level, there was a lot for the makers to put in the movie, but the journey in 2-hour-plus film is unexplored due to the time limit. Sonakshi Sinha’s character looks very real and reached the heights of the movie. Huma Qureshi’s character goes off the track when she tries to touch the high pitch at multiple moments.

What’s not interesting?

The main issue with Double XL lies in the fact that the film is not exciting enough to spark audience’s interest. The movie has the story of two plus-sized women, but what does the maker want to do with that aspect? The idea of interlinking the story with the sports commentator and fashion designer element is meaningless and the medium to attain the dream is full of convenient moments. There are so many mistakes in this movie; you don’t feel when the character rise, because they never fall in their journey. https://youtu.be/cQmQy-Wu72g

Zaheer Iqbal has shown an impressive performance in the film NoteBook but he looks so different in Double XL. The romantic song doesn’t connect at all and dialogues are also very weak.  Sonakshi Sinha looks so decent in the character of Saira Khanna. Her character has written well and she shows a vague sense. The performance deserved a better script to be noticed by the audience. Huma Qureshi also shows a good performance as Rajshree Trivedi. The over-the-top moments of her character are not that impressive. Even Jimmy Shergill wasted in his cameo in the movie.

Double XL lacks at many levels. It’s neither dramatic nor entertaining and ends up being a rather dull affair, which won’t do well at the box office.
