Haddi Review: Released on 7th September, this movie shares the tale of a transgender, as they seek vengeance for their family. Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role of Haddi, the film is directed by Akshat Ajay Sharma, who had previously worked in movies and web series such as Sacred Games and AK vs AK. Apart from this, Anurag Kashyap is back on screen playing the role of Pramod Ahlawat, a politician and the film’s antagonist. Although released on the day of the biggest Hindi film, Jawan, a Shahrukh Khan starrer, this movie is worth watching as well.
Plot
The plot revolves around the character of Haddi, a transgender, who joins a gangster squad on the outskirts of Delhi NCR. Haddi is on a mission to avenge the wrongs done to his family by the gangster, Pramod Ahlawat, now a politician. The movie starts with Haddi talking about their community by saying that their blessings are powerful, but their curse is way worse. He adds, that, however, their revenge is scariest of them all, as he sets to destroy his enemy. Throughout the film, Haddi goes through their ups and downs reaching the top very quickly, keeping his goal in mind.
Strengths
Apart from its exceptional performances, the movie captures the plight of a transgender with utmost care, without making any problematic dialogues. Moreover, the plot has a pace that keeps the audience hooked throughout. In addition to that, the music, composed by Rohan-Rohan, adds to the entire vibe of the movie, making it spine-chilling. Apart from that, blood lust and gore are present throughout the film, with occasional innocence portrayed by Haddi, leaving the audience rooting for this anti-hero.
Weaknesses
Although the film will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout, the films can tend to be slow, showing no movement at times. Moreover, apart from being a tale about a transgender, the gangster-revenge aspect of the movie has been done many times, giving the audience a somewhat similar storyline.
Performances
The movie can be lauded for its exceptional acting performances from both Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Anurag Kashyap. Anurag Kashyap, with only a few acting roles under his belt, gave an amazing performance as a gangster turned Politician. It is also up for debate that this may be his best performance ever. However, it was Nawazuddin’s performance that made the movie. Immersing in his character completely, this actor gave true justice to the character, keeping the audience riveted by his performance.
